How To Unblock A Toilet

Video Jug to the rescue again!

I particularly like this video because it’s narrated by a British person. For some reason, anything in a British accent sounds better and more clever than anything said in a North American dialect. I also like this how-to video because it stars a poor man’s Winona Ryder on a really, really bad day.

To unclog a blocked toilet, all that’s really needed are some rubber gloves, a bucket, a cup you will never, ever, ever use again, a toilet plunger, and if things get dire, a Cobra Products 6Ft Toilet Auger.

A couple corrections to the video, despite its entertainment value:
1) Don’t use a coat hanger. You’re likely to scratch the bowl, and using a proper tool won’t cost much. See point number 2 below.
2) Use a toilet auger and not a standard auger for drains. Standard augers can scratch the porcelain of your toilet bowl. A toilet auger has a shield around the portion of wire that contacts your bowl.

Oh, and don’t forget a firm control of your gag reflex! That’ll come in handy, too – especially if it’s not something as innocent as a child’s toy that’s impacting your ability to get a good flush happening.

Happy hunting!

I don’t want to complain about the video, but does she use a GLASS to remove water from the toilet? There is no amount of washing that could possibly make that glass fit for drinking from again!

I have to agree they make a very poor choice by opting for the household cocktail glass over a recyclable plastic food container. Let’s face it, an air freshener is probably not what clogged the toilet in the first place! I’m all for exercising the immune system at times, but I draw the line well before using drinking glasses for toilet scooping!
