Handy Electrical Outlets

July 22nd, 2005 by Marcos

Benchmate Electrical OutletIf you are like me and have way too many power tools, then you probably also have way too few electrical outlets around the work-bench too. The Benchmate is a handy device for adding some easily accessible electricity. It adds four outlets and is rated for 15 amps. Best of all, it is flexible from temperatures from -45 to 221 degrees Fahrenheit. That is good news since our garage is approaching the upper range of that right now. Available for about $15.00 from Rockler.

Garage your Car on a Dime

June 23rd, 2005 by Marcos

Park Smart Mat BlackNothing is more fun than seeing how fast you can park your car in the exact right spot in your garage without slamming through the lawn mower, artificial Christmas tree and your tax records from last four years. I pride myself on good depth perception and fast reflexes, but sometimes its nice not to have to use them. Enter, the Park Smart Parking Mat. It’s a $20 investment that might help keep the front end of your car and the back wall of your garage safe from harm. They come in high visibility yellow and stealth black. I chose to sacrifice visibility for my favorite color, black. In my opinion yellow should only be used on traffic lights and German postal vehicles. Anyway, the mat doesn’t slip, is unobtrusive, and it keeps my baby safer from garage mishaps. Just don’t let anyone park the lawnmower closer than it was before once you set the placement of the mat. Always park responsibly!
I bought mine at AutoBarn. You can also find them at AutoGeeks.

Serious Pegboard Action

May 15th, 2005 by Marcos

RPM PegboardsFor those that are Home Fixated, the garage becomes the epicenter of all that is good. It is home to powertools, hand tools, hardware, supplies, and ideally, some nice wheels. If you’re lucky enough to claim dominion over your own garage, then you know there are few things better than a nicely stocked and organized pegboard. But who needs those wood/cardboard pegboards that crumble to dust after moderate use? Plus I don’t know about your style, but anything I put into my garage needs to be black or silver. A meticulous online search led me to RPM Manufacturing which happens to make some serious metal pegboards. I ordered a package of four panels which included a variety of pegs, and a few days later I was in pegboard heaven. . . happily hanging and organizing tools. These pegboards are well crafted, durable, and they look good too! RPM makes a variety of styles and sizes.
