I’m lucky. There’s a Rockler store just 1.8 miles away. Of course I’m also lucky to live by the beach, be only fifteen minutes from work, and live in beautiful southern California. I lucked out again when I started working with Marc and he offered to send me tools and construction materials to evaluate. Some of these came in handy when I had a small mishap during an L.A. Several years ago, if you had asked me if I had any interest in a cordless jig saw, you probably would have received a very skeptical look. If you told me it was from a 12v product line, laughter might have followed. Last year at a media event for Milwaukee Tool, my thoughts on the feasibility, or even desirability of a 12v jig saw received a jolt. It was my first opportunity to see and lay hands on Milwaukee’s new 12v Max Jig Saw, and suddenly gettin’ jiggy with with a small, cordless jig saw no longer seemed like a bad idea. I remember saying this many times growing up in beautiful southern California. Or at least some version thereof. “Man, I’m never gonna stop surfin’!”… “Yeah man, let’s surf forever!”… “Hey dude, if one of us stops surfin’ then the other one gets to go over to the other dude’s house and kick his ass!” Note to self: Install surveillance system or at least a peephole for the time being. I’ll be the first to admit it – I’m not much of a neat freak. My wife would use other words, but that’s not really all that important. The other day, however, I found myself in the tool aisle of my local ‘candy’ store partly shaking my head and rolling my eyes, yet also partly in fact kind of lusting for the MagnoGrip Nail Pouch. In case you can’t tell by the picture, or the name, it is a nail pouch – with magnets. At first look, I thought to myself, “Who in the world would waste money on a nail pouch that holds your nails for you?” I mean really, how long would it take you to do anything if you had to organize your nails first? However, I kept looking at it and in the back of my mind I found myself saying, “Uh, yeah, that could be pretty handy!” Who knew I could be so fickle?

This wine rack is made from salvaged 2×10 wood (pine for the shelves and upright supports and cherry for the wine bottle holders), left over from another project. Overall dimensions for this wine rack are 50½” h x 22″ w x 9″ deep, but you can adjust accordingly to accommodate the amount of salvaged material on hand. [click to continue…]
