In a lot of ways, the first winter months are like Tuesdays; you tend not to have “wild Tuesday nights” where you go out and get crazy and spend a lot of money. Tuesday has typically been the slowest day of the week when it comes to leisure spending, which is why restaurants and movie theaters often have Tuesday specials to lure you out. January and February are similar; people blew their budgets and waistlines over the holidays and spend the first few months of the year recovering, being a little more sensible and paying back credit card debt. (Well, that’s the theory, anyway.) And it’s for that reason that some of the best deals in home improvement, home furnishings and tools can often be found across the board in these months-of-the-doldrums; retailers are just dying for you to part with your dough again. We can’t win, can we? In the summer, it’s ants and spiders and other creepy crawlies I prefer not to think about trying to get into the house. In the winter, it’s bigger game: particularly raccoons and squirrels. Seeing as indoor water gardens mainly rely on a container of water to grow (presuming hers wasn’t already in use - I don’t know, I just don’t see Martha as the type to try a Peeno, er, Pinot that wasn’t a vintage) – these lovely lilies may have indeed helped her days go by during that dark era. But even us free folk can enjoy indoor water gardens, especially as winter draws close. [click to continue…]
It doesn’t matter if you’ve never seen America’s Funniest Home Videos or if you’re the only person on earth who has never wasted time on YouTube: You know something is going to happen anytime a video camera is pointed at a man removing snow and ice from his roof. [click to continue…]
