I tried out that Naturemill composter for about a month. It started out in my kitchen but the rotation cycle was loud enough to wake up the downstairs roommate. Despite the baking soda, it smelled...badly. After moving it outside for the noise and the smell, it worked fine despite the constant attention to the right combination of baking soda, dirt from the garden (with the right balance of bacteria) dry pellets, and the avoidance of too much acidity.

After about it month, the motor gave out and it stopped working completely. My best guess, as I couldn't hold my breathe long enough to a root cause analysis, is that when banana peels dry out, they become very tough and viney. Looks as though they wrapped themselves around the impeller and burned out the motor.

I'm still not thrilled about the idea of worms in the house. Hopefully, naturemill will improve their design or I may just have to cut up banana peels and try again.
