bosch-multi-x-p650New from Bosch and soon to be in every DIYer’s toolbelt is the Multi X. It’s a slim, cordless oscillating tool that allows for an array of accessories to be attached to it depending on the job you want to do. Similar to the Fein Multimaster, its design allows it to fit into tight places and corners, sort of like a Swiffer, but deadlier. For the home renovator, it’s a question of what doesn’t it do. The Bosch Multi X Tool is one of those tools that you imagine starring in its own “getting stuff done” 80s montages. One second it’s cutting out a hole in the dry wall, the next, it’s sanding the stairs – and all to a glorious soundtrack of Huey Lewis and the News. Depending on the accessory chosen, the Bosch Multi X Tool works on hardwoods, softwoods, grout, drywall, plastic and certain metals. With the included adaptor, you can even pop accessories from other makers onto it. There are multiple speed levels that can be selected depending on your remodeling or renovation project. It really will take you from “Workin’ for a Livin’” right on through to “Hip to Be Square.” Several early adopters have expressed concern about limited battery life with the Multi X, so it may be best suited to smaller projects. If you’re planning to use the tool extensively and for longer periods of time, the Fein Multimaster may be a better bet. No matter what brand you choose, it’s great to see some competition in a formerly monopolized market of Fein oscillating tools and ultra-pricey accessories. The Bosch PS50-2B 12-Volt Max Multi-X Carpenter Kit can be purchased for around $220 or less, depending on the kit you choose.

Her approach to home improvement has been rather trial and error, the latter of which is evidenced by the amount of spackle she buys on an annual basis.
