fastcap-custom-color-punch-kitThe Custom Color Punch Kit with included FlushMount Drillbit System from Fastcap gives your wordworking and cabinetry some punch! The kit includes a Micro Flushmount Drill Bit, 1″ x 50′ SpeedTape, PowerHead Screw Assortment, Punch Tool and 9/16″, 11/16″, and 3/8″ dies, all in a hard-shell carrying case. I’m not sure what I like more; the ability to create custom caps to cover screws, or the ability to create perfect countersunk holes for screws or even magnets. My first project to put the kit to work was boring a hole perfectly sized for Fastcap’s PowerMag magnets (review coming soon) and a Fastcap. The Micro Flushmount Drill bit incorporates a unique ball bearing stop collar that precisely controls the recess depth created by the drill. It’s very easy to set both the drill bit length and the depth of the flat countersink (in my case to perfectly accept a Powermag magnet and a fastcap to conceal it in the wood. To prevent surface marring, the bearing system lets the stop collar stop spinning when it comes in contact with the surface you’re drilling, so it’s safe for fine finishes. The punch and die kit along with the included tape, let you create a custom Fastcap to match just about any material you’re working on. This kit punched up my little magnet project so well, I plan to replace a sticky ball-catch on a rotating cabinet with a flush mount concealed magnet. This kit is great for general cabinetry work as well as for other projects it might inspire in you. The Custom Color Punch Kit lists for about $100, but is available at Amazon for under $70.

About Marc Lyman

Marc grew up under a brave single mom who "encouraged" home improvement on the family home. Early toddler gifts included a tool set, and even a cordless Bosch drill when cordless drills first came out. In grade school (give or take a few years), Marc's mom said, "We need to cut down some trees. . . . here's a chainsaw." A father figure also involved Marc in many home improvement projects, including a summer of home remodeling in Palo Alto, CA. Toss in some Obsessive Compulsive personality traits researching everything home improvement related. The end result: a genetically pre-disposed, socially sculpted home improvement machine!
