Casting Call – HGTV’s Professional Grade

Ever take a look at the price tag for an item and think to yourself, “I could find that for way cheaper!”? Or get a quote from a professional and think, “I could just do that myself and save the money.”? Willing to put your money (and possibly your dignity and reputation) where your mouth is? Here’s your chance! HGTV is developing a new show that will put homeowners to this test and they’re casting for it now!

HGTV’s upcoming show is called Professional Grade. Basically, homeowners who have a home renovation project are visited by professional renovators and contractors. Together, they go through and assess what the project needs. The contractor then gives a quote on what it would cost to get the job done.  It’s up to the homeowners to do better. They become the general contractor of the job. They’re responsible for sourcing and buying materials, hiring sub-contractors and tradespeople and / or doing the labor on their own.

Once the project is done, the experts come back to inspect the job and give their estimate on what the job cost. If the price-conscious homeowners are able to fool the contractor panel into thinking they spent more on the renovation than they did, then they can win the difference in cash from HGTV. Homeowners will also receive a $2,500 appearance fee when they finish their projects in 4-5 weeks.

Interested? Here are the requirements. The production company is looking for homeowners who:

  • Own their own home and live in the Los Angeles and surrounding areas (Denver has already been cast).
  • Have a remodel project planned in 2011 and plan to pull the proper permits needed to do the work.
  • Have a compelling story about why they need to renovate.
  • Are physically capable of completing the renovation.
  • Have the time available and can commit to a FIRM completion deadline (about 4-5 weeks total project time).
  • Have an appropriate budget already set aside for the renovation.
  • Are enthusiastic about being on TV and are ready to put their skills to the test.

Sounds like you? Go to the application page on High Noon Entertainment’s website. They’ll be casting from now until July.

As usual, HomeFixated has nadda to do with this show or casting decisions – so please direct your questions to the people at HGTV and the production company, High Noon Entertainment. Good luck!

  1. I always wondered whether people on these type shows get paid. I guess this answers that question at least for this show.

    • I think most shows pay something, although I’m fairly certain none pay nearly enough for me to be willing to publicly humiliate myself! ; ) Let us know if you give it a shot Ryan.
