Want to save an average of $180 a year? Want to help do your part to conserve energy? Want me to get back to that part about saving money?

If you’re using an old thermostat, you can save energy and money (on your heating and cooling bills) by switching to a smarter, programmable thermostat – and we found one that has been very well reviewed!

No one likes coming home to a house that is too hot or too cold – but keeping the heat or air conditioning on when no one is around to enjoy it is how wasted energy (and money) quickly adds up. The Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat allows you to get your home’s temperature just right and based on your schedule.

Set the hours in which no one is normally home so that the house doesn’t use up a ton of energy – and then set the thermostat’s programming so that an optimal temperature is reached for when you and your family is most likely be in the house. The programming allows you to create different programs for each separate day – ideal regardless if you work shifts or have a regular 9-to-5 and are home on the weekends. Naturally, you can also override the settings should you be home one day unexpectedly. As the seasons change, so will your home’s heating and cooling needs – all of this can be programmed with the Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat.

Combine the programmable features with the thermostat’s extra large backlit touch screen, a filter change reminder and a low battery indicator, and you have one of the best-selling thermostats on the market! Get the straight scoop direct from Honeywell.

Not sure how to remove your old thermostat and replace it with a new one? Instructions come with the Honeywell model, but this photo-heavy demo on Popular Mechanics can help you too!

The Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat is available at Amazon for $65.88.

  1. I just replaced my programmable thermostat a couple weeks ago with a Wi-Fi model. It is controlable from a smart phone or the web, and only it is the 3M50, $99 at Home Depot. You may have to run an extra wire for power or use a transformer.
