Pottery Barn Mayfair Sconce – Way Cuter than a Floodlight

The extent of my experience with lighting pretty much ends at an uncanny knack for getting electrocuted. Eight times and counting, folks. At this point, I’m just waiting for the big one.  Maybe I’ll be able to speak Italian when I regain consciousness. (Or, does that only happen after surviving a lightning strike?) This is probably why Pottery Barn recommends hiring a professional electrician to hard wire their Mayfair Sconce

Designed to hang on a covered porch, the Mayfair Sconce comes with a hand-blown, glass shade and measures at 10 ½” wide x 8″ deep x 13 ½” high. The bronzed back plate accommodates up to four house numbers, which slide right onto the track. (I guess that means you are SOL if your address is 5-plus numbers.)

The address numbers are made of a contrasting polished brass, so they really stand out against the bronze. The sconce requires a Type-A, 75 watt bulb, which is not included. Flip the light on, and the numbers are easily visible from the road at night. And, as the title of this article suggests, the sconce looks much nicer than an industrial sized floodlight such as the one aimed at our front porch. You’d think we were preparing a stage for Lady Gaga.

The Mayfair sconce is not available in stores, but through the Pottery Barn catalogue or on line. Both items are on sale now: the sconce for $69.99 and the address numbers for .99 cents each, plus shipping charges. (There is a “No Return” policy on sale items.)
