Vive La Socket Libre!: The Power Strip Liberator

liberator-power-stripI’m sure we’ve all been in this position: You’re working on a home improvement project that requires a bit of power – a good light source, a drill, your mitre saw, a shop-vac and of course, a mini fridge to keep the beer nice and cold. You’ve grabbed your surge protector or power cord to get everything set up, only to discover that you can’t plug everything into it – and it’s not because they’re aren’t enough sockets, but because some of the tools have those irritatingly large AC adapters that cover up neighboring sockets, making half of the outlets hidden and useless. I’ve sometimes resorted to connecting an existing power cord to another power cord, resulting in a Frankenstein-esque power block, not entirely unlike the amazing fire-hazard featured in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

So, when I saw the ‘duh-why-didn’t-I-come-up-with-that’ Power Strip Liberator by Viotek, I pretty much knew I needed to get one. The concept is very simple: it’s basically a small extension cord.

Sorry, you were expecting more? Because there isn’t anything more to it. Yep. That’s it. You just plug it into the socket, plug your tool into it – and voila! Everything fits! No more Griswoldian tragedies in the making! Project done! Cold beer! More cold beer! And one more for good measure!

The Power Strip Liberator – available in various quantities – can be purchased on Amazon.com. A five-pack is available for just under $12.

About Jen

Jen (but never “Jenn”) Byck, aka the Fix'n Vixen, is a Toronto-based freelance writer and communication consultant who is undoubtedly home fixated (she is also TV fixated, really bad TV fixated and donut fixated). Her approach to home improvement has been rather trial and error, the latter of which is evidenced by the amount of spackle she buys on an annual basis.
