DEWALT DCST922

2020. The year of the rat, according to the Chinese Zodiac. The year that we’ll get around to cleaning that primordial ooze out of the gutters. The year that we’ll finally fix that wobbly newell post. There was certainly a lot to be grateful for in 2019, and even more to look forward to as we start this new year and new decade. In this installment of Tool News Nirvana, we’ll hear about a new pole hedge trimmer and string trimmer from DEWALT, a hole punching tool and work light from Makita, and a new stapler from Milwaukee. Nirvananauts, we’re ready for lift-off.

20V Folding String Trimmer From DEWALT

DCST922 – Does This Count As Carry-On Luggage?

In an expansion to their line of professional outdoor power equipment, DEWALT announced a new 14” cordless string trimmer. This tool shares into the same 20V MAX battery platform as 200+ other tools, adding to the versatility of the line. A unique feature about this tool, the DCST922, is that it has an innovative folding hinge mechanism that reduces the tool’s length by 41% for convenient storage. Look for it in stores later this spring, and look for a hands-on review coming once the weeds reemerge from the snow!

Makita’s New Hole Puncher

Makita XPP01ZK Hole Puncher
Makita – The Perforation Specialist

Makita is launching an interesting new tool this month – the 18V LXT Metal Hole Puncher. The maximum thickness of the metal plates it can handle is 5/16”. It can produce a hole that is up to 25/32” in diameter. This tool is ideal for fabrication and install work, and offers an accurate way to put holes into metal without having to deal with drill bits or cutting fluid. Plus, think about the looks you’d get when you bring this tool to the next meeting of the neighborhood scrapbooking club….

Milwaukee Launches New Narrow-Crown Cordless Stapler

Milwaukee Narrow Crown Stapler
Narrow Crown, Broad Applications

Milwaukee recently added another great tool to their ever-expanding M18 Fuel group of tools. The 18GA ¼” Narrow Crown Stapler is meant for detail-oriented jobs like installing trim. The tool itself is designed to be narrow at the nose, making it easier to maneuver in corners and tight spaces. It features something called a nitrogen air spring mechanism, which also sounds like something that might be found on a spaceship. With the advanced features, small size, and low weight of this tool, you now have officially run out of excuses to finish the built-in bookshelf that you started 2 years ago.

DEWALT Announces 20V Pole Hedge Trimmer

A Hedge’s Worst Nightmare

In mid-2019, DEWALT launched a nicely-thought-out pole chainsaw. In the Spring of this year, team yellow & black introduces a close relative to that tool – the DCPH820 pole hedge trimmer. This tool, featuring a shaft that can extend between 7 and 12 feet, promises to help make quick work of that hedge in your backyard that the neighbor has started calling “the great green wall”. It also incorporates some neat technology, such as hardened steel laser-cut blades and a 7 position articulating head. Look for it in stores at about the time that “yard season” begins in earnest. Look for a hands-on review of this one too, right here at HomeFixated.com.

Makita and Their Very Bright Work Light

Makita – Bringing Light To The Darkness Since 2020.

Makita launched a versatile new work light – the DML809. This thing is seriously bright, putting out over 10,000 lumens on the high setting. It can be powered by either the included AC adapter or by a Makita LXT 18V battery (sold separately). The DML809 is a perfect fit for many different applications, like worksite illumination or turning night into day. It’s available now.
