The Vise Squad: Wilton 8” Vise

wilton_viseThe inventor(s) of vises and clamps understood life. Those people knew that there would be moments when no one is simply around – or more accurate – moments where no one would hear your holler from the basement and, even if they did, they wouldn’t be willing to stand there and handle the hard, hard task of holding something in place for two minutes.

It’s like the inventors of vises and clamps were looking into the future and seeing our era: The Impatient Years.

I am so glad these things exist, and I’m particularly happy there’s such a thing as the Wilton Columbia Vise. It really doesn’t fool around on the job, holds what you need for as long as you need it held (whether for a moment while you screw something or overnight as you let adhesive dry).

And just now, I’ve realized it’s a bit tough to review a vise. It either works or it doesn’t. This one does. It tightens. It loosens. It’s easy to deal with. It’s heavy-duty enough to deal with big stuff, gentle enough for a light project. So … buy it? Yes?

All I can say is that I recommend it. Available via Northern Tool, you can get the Wilton Columbian Vise — 8in., Bench Mount bad boy for just $160.

Jen (but never “Jenn”) Byck, aka the Fix'n Vixen, is a Toronto-based freelance writer and communication consultant who is undoubtedly home fixated (she is also TV fixated, really bad TV fixated and donut fixated). Her approach to home improvement has been rather trial and error, the latter of which is evidenced by the amount of spackle she buys on an annual basis.
