When I first laid eyes on the Neuton electric mower, I couldn’t help but think that it looked like a mini Batmobile if Kermit the Frog was the Dark Knight. It does, doesn’t it? Plus, if you happen to know your Muppet trivia, you’ll know that Kermit had a nephew named Robin. How perfect is that? What’s not so perfect is trying to picture ol’ Kermie talking in that lame husky voice and punching people out – but the main point was really about the Green Batmobile, so let’s stick to that.
Besides being amazingly cartoonish, the Neuton Mower has some other amazing features. Whoever said it “Ain’t Easy Being Green” (ahem) hadn’t met this lawn gadget. This electric mower runs off a 36-volt battery rechargeable battery that frees you from snaking an extension chord from your house to you while giving you about an hour of mowing time. The other advantages of battery powered lawn gear include no emissions, no gas or fuel costs and spillages and far less noise (it has about the sound intensity of a vacuum cleaner). One little drawback is that the battery takes eight hours to charge – so if you have more than an hour’s work ahead of you, it could cut your task short. Thankfully, additional batteries are available for sale – allowing you to always have a back-up on hand if you need it.
The other lovely feature of this frogmobile is its mulcher plug. Not only will it cut the grass well, but it churns the blades into smaller shorter clippings – great for composting or even just reducing the volume of what you toss away. At about 19” wide, the Neuton Mower is slightly smaller than your average gas-based mower, giving you a little more room in your garage or shed – something we could all probably use.
But you don’t have to take our word for it. It’s been tested by the best and was crowned as a winner of the 2009 Organic Gardening Editors’ Choice Award – where they cited its power against tall, damp grass and your ability to select your preferred grass height as reasons why it championed over other battery-based mowers.
Through Amazon, you can get the Neuton CE 6.3 19-Inch 36-Volt Cordless Electric Discharge/Mulching/Bagging Lawn Mower With Removable Battery for $484.00 and see for yourself what it can do. No Muppet / Bat Signal required.
