It doesn’t matter if you’ve never seen America’s Funniest Home Videos or if you’re the only person on earth who has never wasted time on YouTube: You know something is going to happen anytime a video camera is pointed at a man removing snow and ice from his roof.
Here’s the something:

Thankfully, he’s alright – stunned – but alright. Rather than crawl along your roof and pound on it with a shovel, may we suggest a few safer options?
- The Roof Rake. With this extended pole, you can remove snow from your roof safely from the ground or a ladder. Possibly your smartest option.
- Create or buy “ice melting socks” and fill them with calcium chloride. This method can be really hit or miss – some people have wild success with this, others go onto our last suggestion.
- Take a throat lozenge and yodel “Riiiiiiiiccola” until all the snow and ice avalanche off your roof.
Good luck, snowbound folk! If you have your own tips for removing snow and ice off your roof, please share them with us!
