If you’re into woodworking and Sudoku, you’ll definitely want to read on. There’s very little chance that you’ll take this on the bus or subway to help pass the time during your morning commute, but if you’re big into Sudoku (or know someone who is), and don’t care much about game mobility, we’ve found your next woodworking project.
HomeFixated’s wonderous sponsor Rockler has released a Sudoku Template and Bit Kit, a very cool way to turn the paper-and-pencil (or pen, if you’re the confident type) into a 3-D playing board. The plans are available for free as a PDF download – and the acrylic template and special bit make building the game board and pegs that much easier. Also available (bought separately) are the pre-made pegs, which are probably more cost effective and definitely much easier than crafting the entire thing by hand. I can only imagine how long it would take to turn and cut those game pieces by hand. No one loves Sudoku that much! If you do, please let us know how many years the project takes you.
By following the handy plans, you can create a Sudoku board that consists of a puzzle with a 9 x 9 grid divided into rows, columns, and 3 x 3 boxes. The whole thing measures roughly 10 x 10 and has a lower containment section to hold all your pieces, and whatever contraband you’re hiding from the man. It’s the perfect addition to a number lover’s parlour, game collection or cottage. You can develop an unlimited number of potential puzzles with this baby! Think of the hours you can spend exercising your brain!
If you’re intrigued by the project, pick it up and be sure to also make sure you have some bar clamps on hand to make the job go by swimmingly. Satisfy your inner game-geek and woodworker at the same time. Happy woodworking and Sudoku-ing!
