Alright, alright – I’ll admit it: I’m jealous of Americans. No, it’s not just because the leader of your country is a gazillion times cooler than the leader of my country (and here’s another example for emphasis).
I’m jealous of Americans because you can enter in a lot of cool contests – like this Urban Oasis 2010 Giveaway from HGTV.
Until October 20th, you can enter (everyday and for free) for a chance to win a very chic New York apartment and a car. Total prize value: $1.5 Million.
If that doesn’t make you want to grab a big foam finger and chant “USA! USA!” I don’t know what does.
The grand prize includes:
- A state-of-the-art luxury apartment located in The Residences at W New York-Downtown
- An Acura ZDX
Sweet! What’s more is that the apartment comes fully furnished and decorated by HGTV alum Vern Yip. With contest sponsors like Samsung, Cuisinart, Masco Cabinetry, Kohler and Mullican Flooring, you know it’s going to be pretty swank. Don’t believe us? Take a look at the online tour and photo gallery of the his urban oasis up for grabs. You’ll be scheduling when to enter into your daily routine. As usual, we just ask for our very reasonable 50% finders fee if you happen to win after reading this article and entering. Don’t worry, we can’t prove a thing.
You can enter twice a day – once at hgtv.com and once at frontdoor.com. To be eligible for the Urban Oasis 2010 Giveaway you merely have to be an American citizen (grumble), at least 21, and agree to the rules and regs. Remember, contest ends on October 20th!
And, in case it isn’t clear from the fact that we’re an entirely different website with a different name, we are not HGTV. We have no impact or influence over who wins the contest (got that, commenters of our All-American Handyman blog post?).
Good luck!
The lucky winner of that contest will also get a 3rd, unmentioned prize: an approximately $525,000 tax liability (35% of $1.5M).
Good point Drew, although I think most would happily take on the liability for the net winnings. HGTV actually put out a “where are they now” press release. . . not surprisingly, most winners sell their homes. There’s an article about it (including a link to the HGTV press release here at About.com in case you’re curious):

As I like to say, “These are the kind of problems we like to have”! ; )
