A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (Buffalo, NY), I started work as an apprentice framing carpenter. Back then, safety gear, aka PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), was scarce on the job site. At least on the job sites I worked on. I don’t remember ever seeing anyone with safety glasses, dust masks or hearing protection, and if anyone had asked for a safety harness for roofing work, he’d probably have ended up duct taped to the chimney. Luckily, changes in work rules and attitudes have made it much more likely that today’s workers will be using one or more forms of essential PPE to protect themselves on the job.
