We all have to face it one day: Super glue isn’t for everything. Neither is duct tape. And neither is that Mighty Putty stuff. Anytime one of these go-to adhesives surprisingly fails to stick something to another thing – it’s not necessarily because the super glue “went bad” as I used to think. It’s because the glue was wrong for the job to begin with.
It turns out that there’s a whole science to adhesives. Who knew?
A site called ThisToThat.com takes out the guess work – plus, it thinks aesthetically! Not only do you select what two materials need sticking together (ranging from ceramic to styrofoam to wood), it gives you options on how you want that glue to dry. Does it need to be firm? Flexible? Wrinkle-free? You choose and they’ll let you know what will get the job done.
And best of all is that it does my very favourite thing – it tells me what to do without boring me with the details on why to do it. No science lesson – just recommendations. Hurrah! I love not being forced into learning things. That said, if your academic leanings are stronger than mine, the site features a section on “Glue Trivia” for everything you didn’t realize you wanted to know about adhesives.
Check out ThisToThat.com to help you through your sticky projects.
