Prest-On makes several drywall repair products, including the Insta-Back. Available in both 1/2″ and 5/8″ sizes, these products are pretty clever. I cannot tell you how many times I have cobbled together a make-shift wood backing to screw plaster board to. It has almost always been a frustrating experience of sizing wood to the hole and then trying to screw it in place without messing up even more wall. The Insta-Back provides an elegant solution by creating a firm attachment point at each side. The clips that hold the metal backing in place during install simply bend right off, for a nice, obsessively clean solution even I would be proud of. The Insta-Back is available in a homeowner’s kit complete with the drywall (around $15), a plumbers pack with 50 clips and 100 screws (around $17), or in packs of 200 (around $40), for those of you with anger management issues and way too many holes in your walls.
