In the name of full disclosure, I will tell you that I’ve laid tiles only a handful of times, and only once had to use a tile saw. I have also never lost a digit while cutting ceramic tiles, although I have nearly lost the tip of my finger to a table saw and I’ve impaled my thumb with a nail gun. Schluter-Ditra understands that tile, being a hard, brittle substance, expands and contracts due to moisture and temperature related conditions, at a totally, different rate from whichever substrate material lies beneath, be it plywood, concrete, cement, etc. This can be a problem when using traditional, thin-set mortar bed applications, which bond the tile directly to the supporting structure. The black caulk in my shower is FABULOUS.”
