We’ve all been there – you’re outside, the steak is on the BBQ, the sangria is mixed, the patio table is set and the guests arrive. No, not your friends or neighbors – but those of the uninvited nature – mosquitoes, flies, wasps, hornets, bees or other winged menaces (hopefully not at once. If you’re attracting an army of bugs, you may want to have your pheromone levels tested).
As some don’t care for citronella, and having a fly zapper executing insects a few feet away from your dinner is a bit grim, the Patio Umbrella Mosquito Net by Simple DIY Solutions is an easy option that should please all.
It’s a lightweight mosquito net (just like the name says!) that fits over patio umbrellas. Once it’s draped, the area surrounding your table is protected. This product features a tube sleeve that runs all along the perimeter that is meant to be filled with water or sand in order to weigh the net down, keeping it grounded in the face of breezes and moderate winds. There’s also a zippered door (like what you’d see on a basic tent) that lets you enter or exit the area with as little opportunity for bugs to get in while you’re doing so.
Pests out, food in. Yay, summer! The Patio Umbrella Mosquito Net from Simple DIY Solutions is available for about $35.
where can I buy this umbrella screen Greenwood In
Do you leave the canopy on the umbrella when it (the canopy) is not in use? I want to hang the netting from our patio umbrella, but during the day when the mosquitoes are not out, I would like it pulled back and out of the way. The grandchildren are jumping up and down from the table a lot, and the netting will get ripped or the kids will trip on it.
thanks
We recently purchased the Simply DIY Solutions Patio Umbrella Cover Netting that fits a 9 ‘ umbrella. We just installed it for the 1st time last week and filled the bottom with water. Unfortunately, after about 8 hours the water leaked out in 2 or 3 different places. It could have been a manufactures defect since we just took it our of the plastic package.
What are your recommendations to correct this situation?
Thanks,
Bill Kowaleski
Hi Bill, sorry to hear the umbrella cover sprang multiple leaks. We don’t have any hands-on experience with this one, so I’d recommend contacting the manufacturer directly. Since it was recently purchased I would hope you have some warranty recourse or possibly a return option from the store you purchased it from. Let us know how it works out!
I am amazed, I just thought exactly this up a couple of weeks ago!
I have mosquitoes here in Spain, and I was sitting outside late one afternoon,
watching my patio umbrella and a length of old water hose I had
rescued from the trash (I’m always ‘recycling’) …. Bingo!
Well, it happens all the time, I have what I think is a wonderful Idea,
short time later I see someone has thought of it already!!
Frustrated Inventor
Thanks for your comment Griselda, and for reading HomeFIxated.com all the way over in Spain! I hate coming up with inventions others prosper with, but then I remind myself lots of people have the same ideas. . . . it’s who’s willing to invest their time and energy into bring the idea to market. Good luck with the next invention in the meantime! : )
