While we’ve featured salvage, antique and reclamation shops and websites before, Recycling The Past appears to have more kitschy Americana stuff that this HomeFixater finds delightful (maybe it’s all the Mad Men I’ve watched, but I’m just tickled by some of these distinctly 50’s and 60’s finds).
Recycling The Past is owned and operated by the White family out of New Jersey. They carry everything from building material to doors, windows, wrought iron and fireplace mantles. There’s loads of interesting stuff to look at in these categories – but my favourite section of the website, hands down, is its “Funky Finds.” There, we came across a vintage playground toy shaped like a kitschy atomic rocket, vinyl loveseats and monster clam shells. You can find a place for that stuff in your home, right?
Even if you’re more into items that are a little more functionally than funky, “recycling the past” makes a lot of sense (it also sounds more doable than “recycling the future” – as that would be pretty difficult without a certain DeLorean around) – you can get interesting, hard to find items, period pieces that go with your home’s architectural style and save items from clogging up space in a landfill. You may even find some good deals – especially when it comes to building supplies.
Inventory changes continually at Recycling the Past and prices vary quite a bit. Take some time to explore the site – you might find what your home’s been missing!
