In a recent review, we took a look at DeWalt’s DCBL720P1 20V MAX cordless blower. Although intended primarily for shop and work site cleanup, it did a pretty good job of kicking some leaf butt in the yard, too. If you’re a pro landscaper, or someone with a big yard and a lot of leaf butts to kick, DeWalt’s recent announcement is aimed at YOU. They’re continuing to expand the line of DeWalt 40V MAX outdoor power equipment with two new tools: The 40V MAX Brushless Backpack Blower and the 40V MAX Brushless Chainsaw.
Designed for use by professional landscapers, DeWalt 40V MAX outdoor power equipment eliminates a lot of the hassle and expense of gas-powered tools. No mixing gas and oil, pulling the starter cord 17 times, cleaning carburetors, filters and spark plugs, adjusting fuel mixtures, breathing fumes, and MAKING LOTS OF NOISE! Just slap in a charged battery and get to work. Here’s a quick overview vidwo from DeWalt:

According to their news release, the DeWalt 40V MAX Brushless Backpack Blower generates up to 450 cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air volume at 140 MPH. It will be available with either one or two of the new 40V MAX 7.5Ah Lithium Ion batteries. Only one battery is required to operate the tool, but the backpack blower features two battery wells for extended runtime. The activation switch on the handle allows the user to choose which battery to pull energy from, or to lock the tool off for transport and storage.
Like the DeWalt 20V MAX blower we tested, the speed control features a full variable-speed trigger, and an easy-to-set speed lock. To keep the neighbors happy, the DeWalt 40V MAX backpack blower operates at a whisper-quiet 63dB. Okay, maybe not whisper-quiet, but a helluva lot quieter than my neighbor’s gas-powered backpack blower. According to DeWalt, this makes the DeWalt backpack blower compliant with noise-restricted areas across the US. This makes it ideal for working on noise-sensitive properties such as schools, hotels, hospitals, offices, parks, and retirement communities full of cranky old people like me.
The DeWalt 40V MAX Outdoor Lineup – Out On A Limb
For your tree-trimming enjoyment, the DeWalt 40V MAX Brushless Chainsaw recently hit the shelves. DeWalt says the new chainsaw is equipped with a powerful motor that achieves up to 100 cuts per charge using a DCB406 40V MAX 6.0 Ah lithium ion battery, and up to 70 cuts using a DCB404 40V MAX 4.0 Ah lithium ion battery, both on 6×6 inch pressure-treated pine wood. The unit features a low kickback 16” Oregon® bar and chain with LubriLink™ and LubriWell® auto-oiling for continuous lubrication. For quick bar and chain adjustments, the saw also features a tool-free tensioning system.
DeWalt says its new chainsaw delivers smooth cuts, long chain life, and no engine maintenance like gas-powered chainsaws. With no more of the pull-to-start issues associated with gas-powered equipment, this chainsaw is ideal for use in landscape and construction applications, even in closed spaces.
With the introduction of the brushless backpack blower and the brushless chainsaw, there are now five tools in the DeWalt 40V MAX Outdoor Power Equipment lineup. The current stable of DeWalt outdoor power equipment includes the DCST990H1 40V MAX 6.0 Ah Lithium Ion XR String Trimmer, the DeWalt DCHT860M1 40V MAX 4.0 Ah Lithium Ion Hedge Trimmer (a new model is due out in March of 2016), and the DeWalt DCBL790H1 6.0 Ah Brushless Blower, along with the just-released DeWalt DCCS690H1 40V 6AH Lithium Ion XR Brushless Chainsaw. The expected release date for the DeWalt DCBL590 Backpack Blower is March of 2016.
All of the DeWalt 40V MAX outdoor power equipment is built for durability, whether it’s used in landscaping or construction. Each DeWalt outdoor tool features an impact-resistant Xenoy® housing, and like the other three tools in the lineup, the new products are “Gas Performance. Guaranteed.” Everything in the DeWalt 40V MAX outdoor power equipment lineup is backed by a three-year limited warranty, one-year free service contract, and 90-day money-back guarantee.
I have the 40V hedge trimmer and blower and love them. Looking forward to getting the 40V string trimmer to replace my 18V Craftsman.
As someone with a LOT of trees, I’m really looking forward to trying out the backpack blower, Rich.
I wonder if you’ll be able to use the backpack blower’s 7.5 Ah battery with the other tools for even longer run times?
My guess would be yes, Greg. We’ll check with DeWalt and try to find out for sure. More Power Good!
Yep, the 7.5 Ah battery is compatible with all DeWalt 40V Max equipment, and they say it provides 87% more run time than the 4.0 Ah battery. Sweet!
Dewalt is making a compelling case to be my go-to outdoor gear brand.
Yep, it’s nice that the battery-powered equipment has evolved to the point where it can replace gas-powered gear for many applications.
