Step into many woodworking shops throughout the country, and chances are, you’re going to see JET and Powermatic tools. They’re synonymous with the craft of woodworking. This week, we’re attending a JET – Powermatic media event held at Fort Houston, in Nashville, TN. Fort Houston is one of many “maker” facilities that give creative types access to tools, equipment and training that would be tough to find without a shared space. Fort Houston offers classes in everything from Mortise and Tenon Joinery to “The Joy of Mopeding – Moped Science 101.” No, we didn’t make that up. If you’re into woodworking (or mopeds) and happen to live in the Nashville area, check out the Fort Houston classes. Beyond checking out Fort Houston, we’re excited to see what tools JET and Powermatic have to share, including the new Powermatic PM1000 table saw!

Powermatic PM1000 Table Saw

That’s right, Powermatic has announced their new PM1000 table saw, which offers many of the same features and benefits of a full-size cabinet saw yet operates at 115V. This means you don’t need to be a wiring ninja (or an electrician) to get it into your garage or shop. We’d also liken it as a potential gateway drug for Powermatic’s PM2000 and PM3000 saws. Although the Powermatic PM1000 might tempt you into other Powermatic models, it’s really geared toward woodworkers, remodelers and do-it-yourselfers. In the words of Joan Duvall, Director of Product Management – Wood:

We see the PM1000 as the bridge for woodworkers who want to move up to a cabinet saw. It’s loaded with features and meets the historic Powermatic gold standard in performance and value. It’s the right choice for woodworkers wanting to upgrade their current saw without overtaxing their woodworking budgets.

The 10” Powermatic PM1000 will be offered in two models: The #1791000K, with and a 30” maximum rip capacity to the right of the blade, and the #1791001K model that sports an extension table with 52” rip capacity to the right. Both models of the Powermatic PM1000 have cast iron tabletops and are equipped with blade guard assemblies and riving knives to help reduce kickback. OK, enough rambling about the new saw, what else is Powermatic up to, and what does JET have up it’s sleeves?
