Bosch Tool Corporation sent us the improved Dremel 3000 with EZ Twist Nose Cap to try out. Realizing the need for a tool-less change, Bosch upgraded the Dremel by adding the EZ Twist Nose Cap, which lets you switch bits easily by acting as its own wrench. (Although they have included a wrench just in case you lose the nose cap.) The EZ Twist Nose Cap allows for speedy accessory changes with an easy twist, insert and tighten process and really cuts down on time wasted searching for a wrench. Â
The Dremel 3000 has ten variable speed settings ranging from 5,000 to 32,000 rpm — much superior to previous models and suitable for larger projects. They’ve also improved the fan and side vent design for cooler running and lower vibration, making extended use more comfortable on the hands.
Bits include:
- Grinding wheels and tips of various sizes
- Abrasive brushes (great for removing rust in tight spots)
- Buffing pads (polish jewelry like a dream)
- Sanding wheels (allow you to access crevices and other difficult areas)
- Cutting bit and discs (easily sheared off a stripped screw stuck half way into one of my cabinets)
- Engraving bits (for use on metal, ceramics, wood, jewelry and…wait for it ’cause this is a popular one…scrimshaw!)
- Two different depth control attachments, which screw on in place of the EZ Twist Nose Cap (open viewing windows allow you to see your work — a nice plus)
The Dremel 3000 is well balanced and lightweight but sturdy, with a comfortable, rubber grip on the underside. (My hands are small — I stopped growing when I was eleven — and I can operate the EZ Twist Nose Cap, switch speeds, change bits, etc. with no problem.) The speed control is easily accessible by thumb, and switches while the tool is in use. A fold-away hanger is built in so you can hang it if you’d rather not store it in its case.
This tool works with all existing Dremel attachments except the PL400 and MS400 attachments and comes with an impressively long 4-year warranty. You can find the Dremel 3000 Rotary Tool for about $75 from our friends over at Amazon.
